Aligned with the DfE Sustainability Strategy (2025)
Date: 01/04/2025
Sustainability Lead: Vicki Wells
1. 🌍 Decarbonisation (Reducing Carbon Impact)
-
We use energy-efficient LED lighting and ensure lights are turned off when rooms are not in use.
-
Heating is managed carefully—windows and doors are kept closed when heating is on.
-
We encourage digital communication to reduce paper use.
-
We use eco-friendly cleaning products and buy in bulk to reduce packaging.
2. 🌦️ Adaptation and Resilience (Preparing for Climate Risks)
-
We monitor weather forecasts to plan for extreme conditions.
-
Children are protected from heat with shaded outdoor areas, sun hats, and hydration routines.
-
We have a plan in place for heatwaves, including adjusted outdoor times and cooling spaces indoors.
3. 🐞 Biodiversity and Nature Engagement
-
We grow flowers and vegetables in our garden and involve children in planting and caring for them.
-
We’ve added bug hotels, bird feeders, and nature-friendly corners to our outdoor space.
-
Children take part in weekly nature walks or “mini eco-adventures” around the setting.
4. 📚 Climate Education and Green Thinking
-
We embed eco-messages in everyday learning, such as:
- “We care for our world”
- “We recycle”
- “We love trees and animals” -
Books, songs, and stories often include themes about nature, caring for the planet, and animals.
-
We celebrate events like Earth Day and Recycle Week with themed activities.
5. 🤝 Staff and Community Involvement
-
Our team shares responsibility for keeping our setting green.
-
Parents are invited to donate used materials for craft and planting days.
-
We include sustainability updates in our newsletters and on our parent noticeboard.
6. 📝 Review and Update
This plan will be reviewed every 6 months.
We aim to track our progress and share updates with families and staff.
