Working in partnership with parents

At our setting, we strive to establish a strong partnership with parents to meet the needs of all our children. We value and treat all children and adults with equal concern, creating an inclusive and welcoming environment. By working in partnership with parents, we create a collaborative and supportive environment that enhances the well-being and development of each child in our care. Our commitment to working collaboratively with parents is reflected in the following principles:

Respecting Values and Practices: Whenever possible, we accommodate parents' requests for the care of their children based on their values, practices, preferences, and attitudes. We respect family customs and beliefs related to dietary requirements, dress code, hair, and skin care, as outlined in our equal opportunities policy.

Communication and Information Sharing: We share important information with parents/carers during pick-up times and keep them updated as needed. Additionally, we provide newsletters throughout the academic year. Parents/carers will have access to Tapestry, where their child's learning journey is recorded. This enables us to share each child’s progress with their parents/carers and also allows parents to see how their child is developing within the early years foundation stage.

Notifying Changes: We request that you inform us of any changes in your child's home circumstances, care arrangements, or any other changes that may impact their behaviour. Examples include the arrival of a new baby, parents' separation or divorce, introduction of a new partner, or bereavement. Rest assured that all information shared will be treated confidentially unless a child protection issue arises.

Consistent Care: We work closely with parents to ensure consistent care for the child. A consistent approach benefits the child's welfare and minimises confusion.

Recognising Parents as First Educators: We acknowledge and support parents as their child's first and most important educators. We encourage their active involvement in nursery life. We engage in conversations with parents about what their child has learned and promote continuity of teaching at home.

Building Confidence: We aim to generate confidence in parents and encourage them to trust their own instincts and judgment when it comes to their child.

Regular Contact: Maintaining regular contact with parents is essential for building a secure and beneficial working relationship for their children. We value open communication and encourage parents to share any concerns or suggestions.

Key Person System: We operate a key person system that facilitates a close working relationship between parents and staff. This system supports two-way information sharing about each child's individual needs, both at our setting and at home.

Welcoming Suggestions: We consider and discuss all suggestions from parents regarding the care and teaching of their child, as well as the overall operation of the setting.

Complaints and Feedback: We inform all parents about the procedures for registering queries, compliments, complaints, or suggestions. We ensure that parents understand these systems and have access to our written complaints procedure.
